About the book
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (マギ) is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Shinobu Ohtaka. The story and its characters were inspired from stories in “Arabian Nights”, a collection of West and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age.
In his review of the first volume, L.B Bryant of NY Times noted “not only is it a shonen title but it’s a GOOD shonen title” and recommended it be picked up. The series also won the award for “Best Shōnen manga” at the 59th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2013.An anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures aired in Japan from October 2012 to March 2013, and a second season titled Magi: The Kingdom of Magic began airing in October 2013.
Summary of the book
The sinister organization Al-Thamen seeks the wisdom of Solomon, and they don’t care who they have to go through to get it! Deep within the dungeon, faced with opponents capable of using powerful magic, and with their friends the Toran under attack by Al-Thamen as well, Aladdin and Alibaba must use all their skill and strength to stay alive.
