The LKY Story – Lee Kuan Yew: The Man Who Shaped a Nation is a tribute to Singapore’s late founding father and Minister Mentor, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.
This milestone manga production is a collaborative effort between Shogakukan Asia and Japan’s manga creators in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations (SJ50). The biographic manga comic presents Mr. Lee’s inspirational life, in an accessible and truly enjoyable medium with surprising results. The manga publication traces the historic events of Singapore’s transformative period that shaped Singapore into the country it is today.
The objective of this project is to promote the LKY story on a global scale using the popular Japanese “manga” comic book format, which has gained many followers and readers worldwide in recent years. The fusion of Japanese popular culture with Singapore’s rich heritage creates a unique and new interpretation of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s legacy, and will appeal to fans of manga comic books as well as people who are interested to discover more about modern Singapore’s founding father.
About the creators:
Yoshio NABETA (Story): Born in 1963 in Tokyo, Mr. Nabeta graduated from The University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law and worked at Nippon Credit Bank before turning to freelance writing in 1990. He has published many business management books, including “Kazuo Inamori: Enjoy Your Work” , “Men Who Changed Their Company- Possible Corporate Reform”, and “Kenridasu – Japanese Rights Manual”. He has also written for various manga titles such as “Conde Koma” and “The Current Bureaucrats MoF (Ministry of Finance)”. The LKY Story is his second collaborative work with Mr. Fujiwara.
Yoshihide FUJIWARA (Illustraton): Born in 1966 in Tottori Prefecture, Mr. Fujiwara debuted as an illustrator in 1984 and was the Grand Prize winner for the 14th Shogakukan New Comic award. His most noted works include “Conde Koma”, “Kenji”, “Jesus” and “Aegis in the Dark”. The LKY Story is his second collaborative work with Mr. Nabeta.
